Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic Medicine is a form of alternative primary health care that addresses the root cause of illness and disease.
Our Naturopathic Doctors have received 4 years of post-graduate education and are regulated through the College of Naturopaths of Ontario.
The main goals are to promote optimal health and prevent illness using the innate healing power of the body.
Natural techniques and therapies are used to diagnose and treat both acute and chronic conditions. Therapies can be used in conjunction with conventional medical treatments.
Treatment plans are developed based on your individual needs to optimize the results.
A variety of different treatment modalities may be used that are best suited for your needs. These will include dietary and lifestyle counselling and may include Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, Botanical/Herbal/Nutritional Supplementation, Intravenous Therapy, Lab testing, or various Collaborative Packages that include the expertise of our Registered Nutritionists.
Acupuncture/Cupping- Acupuncturist
Acupuncture improves the body’s function and promotes the natural self-healing process by stimulating specific areas known as acupuncture points. The most common method used to stimulate these points is the insertion of fine, sterile needles into the skin. Pressure, heat, or electrical stimulation may further enhance the effects. Other stimulation techniques include: tui na massage, moxibustion or heat therapy, cupping, and gua sha.
Acupuncture has an effect on the nervous system, endocrine and immune systems, cardiovascular system, and digestive system. By stimulating these various systems, acupuncture may help to resolve pain, and improve sleep, digestive function, and sense of well-being on a mental, emotional and physical level.
Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture is a complex system of healing rooted in thousands of years of practice. It has gained popularity in the West due to it’s effectiveness in treating a wide range of ailments.
During a treatment acupuncture points will be stimulated using single use needles, moxibustion and other modalities to activate qi or energy. This energy travels along pathways throughout the body known as meridians or channels. When these energy channels are blocked, qi cannot flow freely, which causes physical, mental and emotional health imbalances.
Acupuncture assists the body in healing by opening these meridians and stimulating the free flow of qi to encourage balance and health within the body. Acupuncture promotes natural healing by restoring balance to the body. It may be used to manage pain, enhance immunity, support physical and emotional health, and improve overall function and well being. Acupuncture is a safe, gentle and effective way to treat a wide variety of health problems
Counselling
Counselling is an opportunity for a person, couple or family to talk to a professionally trained therapist about the difficulties they are experiencing. These discussions occur in the context of a supportive, non-judgmental therapeutic environment and are typically focused on thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. The counsellor’s role is to listen attentively and to offer support, advice and new perspectives on the issue.
